Biblical rest is not simply sleeping, doing nothing or pursuing leisure. You'll notice from our readings for today that rest signifies completion and satisfaction for God.

In Matthew 18 Jesus teaches us a practice of confrontation; done God’s way for God’s purpose. God is into restoration. He knows that in relationships we are bound to step on each others toes – but He has accounted for how to resolve even that and have true, deep unity.

God has always existed in community or family. God didn’t create mankind because He was lonely – He has always had fellowship within the trinity.

Paul says that when we speak in tongues we edify or strengthen our spirits, but our minds are unfruitful. We don’t know exactly what we’re praying or saying – sometimes we get a sense of joy or anguish or awestruck worship – but our minds can’t access this language.

Spending time listening to the preached word of God is one of the best investments of your time that you could make. We hear and see so many messages in a day that are contrary to God’s word. The radio, newspapers, magazines, the hairdresser, the billboard on the side of the highway, the colleague at work – everything and everyone around you is preaching some or other kind of message, some worldview in opposition to the truth.  

In the Kingdom of God there is no real retirement! You see we weren’t designed to work for our provision but rather for pleasure and as worship to God. Our provision is accessed through faith in God.

The Bible tells us that God instructed mankind to work. After he had finished creating everything for the benefit of His most prized creation, His people, and completed His work of provision, He then asked them to work.

Jesus said to go and make disciples of all nations! That means no matter where you go – whether that’s in your day to day life or when you go on a special mission to a different nation – something you do or say should be multiplying the image of God.

Multiplying the image of God extends beyond the physical attributes and likeness of God. We are both physical and spiritual beings. Made in the image of God, from the dust of the earth – and having God breathe life into mankind, makes us unique from all that He created.
