  • DAY SIXTEEN - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

Today is the day to contemplate more deeply a subject that we’ve touched on in this study before – the manner, or modus, of God’s creation.

    “In the beginning, God..”

This opening verse in Genesis is not random. In addition to introducing us to the Bible’s most important person, it also introduces us to one of His most important features: His role as the creator of all things.

  • DAY FIFTEEN - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

The Genesis 1 creation account closes with the fact that God rested. Further details of His creation are offered in Genesis 2 but the creation itself, the primary account itself, ends with a reference to the seventh day.
  • DAY FOURTEEN - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.” Genesis 1: 31 Reading: Genesis 1: 4-21 There is one phrase that is repeated over and over ag...
  • DAY THIRTEEN - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

In the latter part of Day 6, we come to the epitome of God’s creation.

“And then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness.  And let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ And God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

  • DAY TWELVE - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

At the beginning of Day 6, God filled the land with the Earth creatures identified in our main reading for today. There are three categories of creatures mentioned - cattle, creeping things and beasts of the earth. This was the final touch as God was preparing a home for man.
  • DAY ELEVEN - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

The diversity and the complexity of the created order speaks of the immensity of God’s intelligence.  It is staggering how, as you begin to look at the Creation with any kind of thought, any kind of depth, you come face-to-face with the immensity of the intelligence and power of God.
  • DAY TEN - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

How often do we get a chance to just slow down a bit and contemplate Creation? That’s why we’re going to spend another day this month examining the environment surrounding our Earth.

Our moon. God created it. Man reached it. Poets have written about it. Our ‘lesser light’ is amazing and essential to life on Earth. A major purpose of the moon is to light up the night.

  • DAY NINE - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

Now, oddly, although God made ‘light’ on Day 1, it is only on Day 4 that He made the ‘light-bearers’ of our solar system - the sun, moon and stars. It is at this point that we enter into realms little understood by mankind.

Light, as we saw earlier, is really just a form of energy and not necessarily brightness that illuminates things. Our sun, moon and stars are light bearers for us, amongst other things.

  • DAY EIGHT - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

Remember what the Earth looked like in our last study?  The whole Earth was covered with water; waves were rushing over the face of the Earth and everything was obscured by a heavy mist of thick clouds and dense fog.  It would have been impossible to see any distance whatsoever from any place on Earth.
  • DAY SEVEN - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

At the end of Day 1, the earth was still completely covered by water. If you had been there, you would have seen nothing but water. On Day 2 of Creation, we encounter the formation of Earth’s atmosphere, with the water being separated into two parts – oceanic and subterranean water and atmospheric water. This separation produced the sky.
  • DAY SIX - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

On Day 1 of Creation, we encounter a watery, formless morass suspended in the darkness and the void of space. From the Biblical account, it appears that there was no sun, stars, moon or any other planets.
  • DAY FIVE - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

Over the next week or so, we are going to look at the particular order and structure that God used when He created. It’s a very fascinating study. As you read through Genesis 1 today, see if you can pick up the fact that God first created the framework, then added the filling.
