DAY TWENTY FIVE - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION

“All who are led the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

Romans 8: 14

Reading: Galatians 5: 16-26; Romans 8: 4; Acts 8:29; 10:19-20; 13:2; 15:28; 16:6-7; 20:22-23

Please give me one more day to speak about the marvellous work of my beloved Holy Spirit. I speak here of the way he guides us and empowers us. Paul says, “All who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:14), and he speaks of Christian believers as those who are “led by the Spirit” (Galatians 5:18).

In both verses the present tense form of the Greek verb for “lead” implies an ongoing, regular pattern of activity in the lives of believers. In other words, being 'led' by the Holy Spirit should be the normal experience of Christians. The Bible also connects such leading to living in obedience to God’s moral standards as you'll see in our readings for today.

Not only that. Believers in the New Testament regularly received very specific guidance from the Holy Spirit. I've included some examples of that in our readings for today, so be sure to click on the links to go and see for yourself.

Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit before he began his earthly ministry, and then ministered in the power of the Holy Spirit. The first disciples waited for the power of the Holy Spirit before they began preaching the Gospel. Nothing has changed. Today it is still the Holy Spirit who imparts spiritual gifts to every believer:

“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (1 Corinthians 12:7).

Prayer

I am so completely grateful for you, Holy Spirit, and dependent on you as well.

For the family

Explain

Explain that when we give our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, he sends his Holy Spirit into our lives to guide and lead us. Explain that the Holy Spirit will always direct us into God’s righteous ways, so we should listen to him and be sensitive to his leading.

Engage

Play a game of Simon Says with younger kids…using it to explain how we should always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Discuss with older kids how they can led by the Holy Spirit when they are in a situation where they have to make a decision, and you are not around to advice them.
