DAY 73 - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE FALL & THE FLOOD

God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.

Genesis 4: 25

Reading: Genesis 4; Hebrews 11: 6

In yesterday's devotion, we read about the first, grievous sin that was committed outside of Eden - when Cain murdered his brother, Abel. God granted Adam and Eve another child, Seth, in place of Abel. Seth and his descendants became what theologians call, 'the righteous line'.

What made the 'righteous line', righteous? Did they keep certain laws? Did they wear certain clothing? No, according to the Scriptures, Seth and his descendants began to call on the name of the Lord. They looked to God, worshipped Him and served Him alone.

The same faith that makes you and I righteous before God today is the faith that claimed Seth and his descendants for God all those centuries and millennia ago.

Faith is always about its object. The Lord. Our Hebrews Reading for today states this very clearly.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Without this substance of faith it is impossible to please God. Impossible. You must believe that God exists, is who He says He is and will respond to you if you turn your heart and mind towards seeking Him.

Your faith must be actively stewarded by you. It is the only way to please God and is the currency by which you receive the things of God. No one can own the growth of your faith but you.

Would you today make a fresh commitment to own your walk of faith?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving me a measure of faith. Help me to grow my faith and thereby please You.
