Day 68- FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR
Reading: Matthew 26: 62 – Matthew 27: 1 – 56; Daniel 7
Jesus: the Son of Man
Why does Jesus refer to himself as the Son of Man when responding to his accusers?
He is making reference to the Son of Man first written about by Daniel. In his vision, Daniel encountered the Son of Man and was told that “all peoples, nations and languages will serve” this Son of Man and that his “dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away (his) kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed”. To his Jewish hearers, Jesus is clearly declaring himself to the long-awaited Messiah.
Jesus is the Son of Man, that is, he is a human being – but he is also the Son of God, God in the flesh, who is destined to rule everything and everyone, forever – the King of God’s Kingdom.
Prayer
Such a clear allusion to you in the Jewish Scriptures! Thank you Father for all the prophecies foretelling the coming of the Messiah – and thank you that I could be counted amongst his people.
