Jesus: the Christ
But Jesus is not just the obedient Son of the good Father. Who is this Christ of whom the Sanhedrin speak?
Christ is the Greek form of the Hebrew word Messiah – it means ‘anointed one’, a term commonly used in the Old Testament to describe kings, or others, who were specially selected by God to perform a certain task on His behalf. The Old Testament speaks of a king who is to come from David’s line who will rule on God’s behalf forever – the Messiah, or anointed one. Jesus testifies that he is this long-awaited King.
One of the most, if not the most, important questions in the world to answer is this: who is Jesus?
Prayer
Father, thank you that in the day of trouble you so empowered Jesus that he was able to lift up the shield of faith and declare the truth of Your Word concerning himself. Today Lord Jesus, I want to meditate upon the fact that you are the everlasting king of everything.
