Day 6 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious stone, for a sure foundation - and the one who trusts will never be dismayed.
Isaiah 28: 16

Reading: 1 John 4: 2, 3

On pg 8 in the Foundation Stones Participants Workbook we read, The very first thing a builder does when starting a building, is measure out a right angle. Triangles and right angles are incredibly strong forms that can hold a lot of weight – think of the Eiffel Tower, for example – and are thus a favourite with architects, builders and even, artists.

Our salvation too, is built upon the unshakeable foundation of God’s right angle, one side of which comprises Christ’s humanity.

The humanity of Jesus is as equally important as the deity of Christ, even though, at first glance, his God-ness may seem more valuable. The humanity and deity of Christ together make up the Cornerstone, the point of departure of our entire salvation. Jesus was born as a human being while still being totally divine. The concept of the humanity of Jesus co-existing with his deity is difficult for the finite mind of man to comprehend. Nevertheless, Jesus’ nature—wholly man and wholly God—is a biblical fact. There are those who reject these biblical truths and declare that Jesus was a man, but not God. This viewpoint is known as Ebionism. Docetism is the view that Jesus was God, but not human. Both viewpoints are unbiblical and false.

Jesus had to be born as a human being for several vital reasons that we will explore in the coming days. Declaring that Jesus has come in the flesh is the mark of a spirit from God, while the Antichrist and all who follow him will deny it.

When did you first discover that Jesus was both God and man? Which aspect of his identity did you struggle to accept the most? Why do you think that is? Are you able to simply accept that Jesus is a being quite unlike anyone else, that he is unique? The more you are able to accept his true identity, the more true and honouring your worship of him becomes.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to accept your uniqueness and thus to worship you in spirit and truth.
