Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Psalm 90: 2

Reading: Isaiah 9: 6; John 1: 1–2; John 8: 58

Does God have a beginning? Does He have an end? Or is He eternal? The Bible clearly portrays God as everlasting, or, eternal. This eternal quality of God is actually His aseity, the attribute we looked at yesterday, with reference to time.

And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.”
(Exodus 3:14)

But You, O LORD, shall endure forever,
And the remembrance of Your name to all generations.
(Psalm 102:12)

Not only will God continue to exist eternally into the future, but He has also always existed from eternity past. And not only has God existed since eternity past, but so has His redemptive plan for creation. Before the foundations of the world, the Lamb of God was slain (Revelation 13: 8).

And speaking of the Lamb of God, this attribute of eternality is ascribed to Jesus too.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
(Hebrews 13:8)

This eternality of God is a wondrous truth for the believer for it grants him or her confidence in the perseverance of the faith. Once a believer realizes that God has done all this BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, the believer can live without fear before the Lord.

Christ is eternal in His Sonship. So your salvation is assured…for eternity.

Forever and ever, amen!
