Day 39 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our

great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

Titus 2: 13

Reading: Titus 2; Hebrews 1: 7-9

In our reading for today we discover one of the most profound and
unarguable evidences for the Deity of Christ. Paul doesn’t mince his words
when he speaks about the second coming of Christ. He says straight out
that we are waiting for the appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus
Christ. He names God. Yes, Jesus Christ is one of the names of God.
When you read the whole passage you realize that the reference to Jesus
as God is actually a throwaway line – Paul is actually trying to make the
point that because the return of Christ is CERTAIN, we should live a
certain way. He just assumes that the people he is writing to are aware of
the Deity of Christ.

Paul idea of Christianity was that each Christian should live in this world
but with one eye on the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour
Jesus Christ. It is a studied declaration of the divinity of the Eternal Son,
who Paul calls “our great God and Saviour.”
Are you living with one eye on the future appearing of Jesus? Or are both
of your eyes firmly fixed on the here and now.
