DAY 276- BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE EXILE

Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.
Daniel 6: 3

Reading: Daniel 2; Daniel 6

We saw yesterday that Daniel actually outlived the Babylonian Empire and ended up serving in the highest official posts in the Medo/Persian Empires too.

In all this time, simply by remaining steadfastly and unashamedly devoted to the Lord, Daniel succeeded in influencing the whole world to worship Yahweh. In our chapter 2 Reading, after Daniel interpreted King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the king proclaimed, “Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings…” (Verse 47). How incredible is that! Daniel used his influence, his spiritual gifting, and his trust in God, to influence the most powerful king in the world at that time.

This isn’t the only time however. In our chapter 6 Reading, in verses 25 through 27, after King Darius saw that Daniel was spared from being eaten by the lions, he decreed that no one should worship anyone but the God of Daniel. Incredible. Again, the most powerful and influential king in the world, with the power to change the whole religious structure of the world, did so because of what he saw in Daniel’s life.

The easiest and most effective way to witness for the Lord and influence the world around you is not to be holier than thou, not to Bible bash people and look down on them, not to hide your Christianity away so that you can ‘win’ the world over by being just like them, it’s not by doing great acts of charity – it is simply by being true to God, trusting Him and not being ashamed to show that.

Prayer

Father God, help me to be as unashamed and steadfast as Daniel was in my worship of You.
