DAY 244 - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR -THE UNITED MONARCHY
Reading: 1 Kings 3:1-28
The name ‘Solomon’ is enduringly associated with wisdom. Solomon was a wise king. Solomon dreamed a dream. He saw a vision and in that vision God offered to give him anything that his heart desired. Solomon asked for wisdom to be able to effectively rule the people of God. In the presence of God and with a nation depending on your decisions, we would all feel inadequate.
God commended Solomon’s choice and added to the wisdom he asked for, wealth and honour. Solomon received unmatched wisdom. His wisdom was demonstrated to the nation when two harlots disputed over two babies, one dead and the other living. Solomon correctly identified the mother of the living child and received great respect from the nation. The nation of Israel “feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice” (1 Kings 3:28).
Looking forward, none of the kings that followed matched the wisdom of Solomon. Later, prophets like Daniel come to mind as wise men, but it is only when we see Jesus that we see One in whom are hidden “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”. Jesus has Divine wisdom with which to rule the world in righteousness.
Prayer
Dear Father, please give us wisdom by which we may rightly judge good from evil and rightly divide Your word. Thank You for Jesus, in and through whom we discover new treasures, daily.
