DAY 242 - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR -THE UNITED MONARCHY

"I HAVE SET MY KING, ON MY HOLY HILL OF ZION. I WILL DECLARE THE DECREE: THE LORD HAS SAID TO ME, ‘YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU’ ”.

Psalm 2:6-7

Reading: Psalm 2

Psalm 2, our reading for today, is an amazing Messianic Psalm. The exalted nature of the Messiah, the Anointed of the LORD is shown clearly here. He sits enthroned at the Father’s right hand. He is anointed by the LORD and is given rulership over the entire planet. God’s rule here is the LORD’s decree, His people will include all nations and His domain will be all of the earth, even all nations. The LORD calls Him His Son, the only begotten of the Father. There is something special here, which is not really made clear to us except when we see the incarnation of Jesus into human flesh.

Just like King David, this Anointed One is rejected by the nations in general, which brings great anger from the Father and judgment on them. Those who will not serve the Messiah will be ruled over with a rod of iron and will be dashed to pieces like pottery struck by an iron rod. For those who do serve the Messiah with reverential fear and faith, there will be great blessing. The Messiah is One in whom we can put our complete trust. He will not disappoint, but will bring real blessing to the world He rules over. In this Psalm David instructs us to kiss the Son, to worship Him. The picture here is of bowing down and kissing the feet of a great King in adoration and humble submission. We serve a God King, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Dear Father, thank You for the true revelation of the Lord Jesus as the Anointed of the LORD, the Son at Your right hand, the apple of Your eye, the God King and source of true blessing. Help us to serve You with reverential fear and in faith. Thank You for the ten thousand blessings we have in Christ.
