DAY 227- BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE LAND

"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (NKJV).
Matthew 16:18-19

Reading: Matthew 16:13-20

Today’s focus is on Caesarea Philippi, a place Jesus visited with his disciples. There were times Jesus withdrew with his disciples to a quiet place where he could teach them in relative peace. Today’s reading happened at such a time. Jesus knew that he was nearing the time of his crucifixion and it was important to complete his work of mentoring in the lives of the 12 he had chosen.

His disciples needed to know exactly who he was so that they could be prepared for their own ministries. So Jesus took his disciples away to another predominantly Gentile area, Caesarea Philippi, where they could talk without interruption by the Pharisees. Peter confessed Jesus’ identity: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Peter's description went beyond the description of Jesus as the 'Son of David' and affirmed his Deity. This confession of faith in Christ marks a turning point in the Gospel of Matthew. Once Jesus saw that his Father was revealing his true identity to his disciples, Jesus began to speak of his primary mission on earth - the cross!

Peter's confession of Jesus as Christ and as God is the heart of the Gospel message and the secret to being included in Christ's Church. When God gives us the same revelation concerning the identity of Jesus, we get born-again, and the Cornerstone, Jesus Christ, is laid in our lives.
Prayer:

Dear Father, thank You for the security we have in Christ. Even the gates of Hell cannot separate us from Your protective care. Amen
