Day 225 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
1 Corinthians 12: 13

We have come to the end of a whole month of immersion into immersion – and yet, it still feels as if we have barely scratched the surface.

Above all things, as our main Reading for today clearly shows, your willingness to be baptised shows your willingness to be make one with Jesus Christ, his Father, his Spirit, his life and suffering and his family.

Baptism doesn’t save you but it certainly is in indicator of how true and secure your salvation is. If you are struggling to baptize into any of the areas we have discussed this month – into Christ, through the symbol of water, into suffering for his sake, into the Spirit, into the church and the other believers, then I beg you to go and speak to a leader or a mature Christian. You are either a very young Christian or something hasn’t quite ‘taken’ in your understanding of the Gospel. Certainly you have no idea what Jesus expects of you or how to live out the Christian life.

Conversely, if baptism into these areas seems reasonable and, although sometimes difficult, is something you are determined to do – I can safely say that your revelation of the Gospel is strong and your salvation secure.

Either way, don’t leave things as they are right now. Strengthen, strengthen what is already there. Thank you for joining me this month and may you be blessed.
