Day 223 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.
Hebrews 2: 11, 12

Reading: Ephesians 4: 11, 12; 1 Corinthians 11: 23-26; Colossians 4: 2-4;

We said yesterday that Jesus is not going to give you your own individual Christian life but will meet you in the Church. That’s not always true. When you’re a very broken believer, or a very new believer, or a believer in the middle of nowhere with no church available to you – Jesus will lavish you with individual attention all the time. However, most of the amazing benefits of being a Christian, he has placed within the Church.

Just as the family home is where you get nourishment, support, training, education and fellowship, so the church is a kind of distribution centre from which your Heavenly Father gives out His good things. There are many things that Jesus distributes to his people exclusively through the local church. You certainly don’t want to miss out on any of them!

The church is where you will learn about the Word of God and in this way, be equipped, prepared for how to live the eternal life, and prepared for works of service in and out of the church. This is also where you’ll be built up spiritually through the giving and receiving of spiritual gifts. The Holy Spirit is always present where believers gather and always ready to share in Heaven’s true riches. Yes, it’s true that you can take communion at home by yourself or with your family, but the church is also the place where you can participate in the powerful, life-giving sacraments like the eucharist, baptism and so on. And isn’t it wonderful to unite in worship and prayer and rejoice together when prayers are answered?

Above all, there is tremendous protection to be enjoyed inside the church.

Prayer

Help me make the most of the church, Lord.
