Day 218 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit
Ephesians 5: 18

Reading: John 15: 5; Acts 5: 32; Revelation 22: 1, 2

The word translated as ‘filled’ in Ephesians 5: 18 is more accurately translated as ‘crammed’. So Ephesians 5:18 actually reads, ""Be crammed with the Spirit." This tells us that being filled with the Holy Spirit is not supposed to be just a one-time memorable episode. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is meant to be a way of life. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, there will be no room for self, works of the flesh or human pride. God will get all the glory from a truly Spirit-filled life.

How are you going to stay crammed with the Holy Spirit? We leak. As we go through life we use up our spiritual energy reserves. They must be replenished. Being filled with the Spirit needs to be a daily experience for all of us.

Read John 15: 5. Jesus is the vine, you are a branch. Think of the Holy Spirit as the sap that flows through the vine and into the branches, making it healthy, alive and fruitful. So it’s essential that you remain in daily contact with the vine so that the Holy Spirit can fill you.

Read Revelation 22: 1, 2. Think of the Holy Spirit as a river that should flow to and through you unhindered. But things like unforgiveness, bitterness, unteachableness can act like huge boulders that stop the free flow of the Spirit to you. Remove these hindrances daily.

Read Acts 5: 32. Note that the Holy Spirit is given to those who obey God. Every small act of obedience to the Word and voice of God releases power from the Spirit – every deliberate act of disobedience acts like a blockage.

Are you ready for the adventure? Are you ready for the third-dimensional relationship with the Holy Spirit?

Prayer

Thank You Lord. Yes, I am ready for adventure with You.

For the family

Bring along a jar of pickled gherkins to the session. Explain how the cucumbers are only transformed into gherkins by remaining continually immersed in the pickling solution. Open the jar and take one gherkin out. Explain that you, as a group, are going to observe this pickle over the coming weeks to see what the effect of being out of the pickling solution is.
