Day 185 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

“Let me never be ashamed, “Deliver me in Your righteousness..”
Psalm 31: 1

Reading: Psalm 91; Psalm 50: 15

Let me never be ashamed. How can the Lord permit the man to be ultimately put to shame who depends alone upon Him? This would not be dealing like a God of truth and grace. It would bring dishonour upon God Himself if faith were not in the end rewarded. And that is why it is so important to position yourself correctly in your time of difficulty.

Our Lord will never fail the one who puts his or her trust in Him. Remember this, God does not require strength or wisdom from us; He just requires a humble dependence that recognises our tremendous need of Him. Since the day I met the Lord and knew Him, I have been able to say with confidence to every person in need ‘the Lord WILL help you, if you put your trust in Him.’ This is the very nature of Jesus, his essential character. He is our Saviour. The old picture of the drowning man who can’t be saved until he ceases to struggle, appertains here. Jesus needs only your childlike trust, your flinging of yourself upon Him, in order to intervene in your situation and fight for you.

Dear one, I know your courage is all but spent. Permit me to en-courage you with this thought – you will never be put to shame as you put your trust in your Lord. Turn to Him right now and grab hold of His strength for this day.

It is a righteous thing for God to deliver those who call upon His Name in the day of trouble. The Scriptures repeatedly speak of this.

‘Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray’ (James 5: 13). ‘In my distress I called to the Lord, I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice’ (Psalm 18: 6). ‘For in the day of trouble, He will keep me safe in His dwelling’ (Psalm 27: 5). Here are just a few examples of the many times the Bible assures us of this truth; we can call upon the Lord in our day (or weeks or months!) of trouble and He will hear and answer us. He will deliver you because it is a righteous thing, a thing fully aligned to His nature and character, for Him to do so.

Remind yourself of who your God is today. He is the All Mighty One, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah Shalom, Alpha and Omega, Lord of Heaven and Earth, the One to whom ALL authority has been given above, on and under the earth. Above all, He is YOUR, personal, loving Saviour. You can pray with confidence today, troubled one, and ask the Lord to deliver you from the pit.

Prayer

Lord my God, this situation is too powerful for me. I call upon Your Name, God of all the earth, Jesus, Son of God, and ask You to deliver me in Your righteousness. My Jesus, my Saviour. Thank you that my weakness is all I need to present you with today. Come and be my strength, my help, I pray.
