To those who have obtained a precious faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:1

Reading: 2 Peter 1:1-15

In reading the Apostle Peter’s second letter to the churches in the Roman Provinces I believe that as we grow in our relationship with God, our faith should naturally grow. Our faith should become equal to the faith which the apostles of Jesus Christ had.

Peter’s theme in this second letter is that in pursuing spiritual maturity through the Word of God and with the application of faith, they should stand fast on the gospel that they were preached. The life they were living was not about simple survival, or holding on until Jesus came. It should be about a life based on reading the scriptures, living the apostles’ doctrine and the development and growth of their faith based on living out what they had learned. Theirs should be lifestyle in which they grew in the uprightness of their characters, in brotherly love and in the unity of faith. Dissension should not be a part of their lives as they were all saved by faith in the resurrected Jesus. The Apostle Peter’s appeal to oneness in the Spirit is based on the evidence of their growth in faith and maturity.

Are we majoring in the minors and not focussing on growing our faith by adding to it the virtues of character which are so necessary for us to have the moral strength to carry the weighty presence of our God?

Dear God, help me grow my precious faith so that it will be pleasing to You.
