Day 145 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

So that the tested genuineness of your faith … may be found to result in praise and glory and honour
1 Peter 1:7

Reading: 1 Peter 1:1-12

Peter writes this letter to the churches in the Roman Provinces who are experiencing persecution. He is telling them in essence to stand strong no matter what they are facing because they have the faith to resist the trials and to stand strong.

The Apostle Peter bases his rallying call to these saints on their salvation, which in turn is based on the resurrection of Jesus. From their salvation stems the hope that one day when they exchange the seen for the unseen they will be rewarded beyond anything that they can imagine. He goes on to say that they are believing in a Saviour they have not seen and that this is the substance of their faith. The evidence of their faith is the life they are now living in Jesus Christ, a life that is filled with the righteousness of Christ, in which they are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live a holy life. In bravely facing the struggles of their daily life, and relying by faith on Christ to keep them strong, they are in fact growing their faith.

How often have we backed down from persecution simply because it is too hard? We have every reason to prove our faith and yet when we are challenged do we stand strong?

Prayer:

Dear God, please strengthen me in my faith that I may stand strong in You.
