Day 138 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR
Reading: Mark 2:1-12,
When I saw the story of the four friends and their paralytic friend in one of the episodes of The Chosen series, I began to understand the enormity of their undertaking on behalf of their friend. They were prepared to risk so much to make Jesus aware of his plight.
This encounter with Jesus also demonstrated to me that Jesus operated on more than one level in bringing the Good News of the Gospel. On the basic level he was moved by the faith of the four friends (John 15:13) in getting their friend up close. On the next level Jesus knew that he would be demonstrating the power of God to the people who were watching. Another level up and he was confronting the hard hearts of the scribes who were in the audience. And finally he would be setting the lame man free from the captivity of his inability to move about freely. He can see that the man is lame so he says, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” What follows is Jesus responding to every level of the situation in which he found himself. Faith answered, healing given, hard hearts chided and the lame walking.
I wonder how many times we have missed the wonder of the miracle. How often have we been looking in one direction and Jesus was moving in another?
Prayer:
Dear God, open my eyes that I may see the unseen unfolding before me.
