Day 124 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR
Reading: Genesis 15:1-6; 1 Samuel 26:19-25
Faith is a very important commodity in our relationship to God simply because God is invisible. Our faith in God is based on our complete trust in God even though God cannot be ‘seen’ as being existent. So why should we have faith in God?
Because Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. We have faith because the bible says we do! We learn from those who have gone before us. Abraham is our first biblical example of precedent. Abraham’s testimony about the birth of Isaac, can be regarded by us, the readers, as an event or action which stands as a precedent i.e. the evidence of truth. We consider the precedent in subsequent similar circumstances. Years later, when David faced Goliath it was an act of faith in God based on his lineage to Abraham his ancestor who had trusted God. The secondary facet of faith is that there is a reward for trusting God. Abraham trusted God and his faith was rewarded 1770 years later when Jesus was born into the nation of Israel. Similarly David was rewarded for his faith in God when Solomon his son was anointed the king of Israel as God had previously revealed this to him.
Romans 12:3 says that each has a measure of faith according to what God has assigned. Secondary precedents are the answers of God we can testify to. Do you have a testimony?
