DAY 120 - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE EXODUS
God spoke to Moses and said to him, "I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name, the Lord, I did not make myself known to them.
Exodus 6: 3
Reading: Genesis 17: 1; Genesis 35: 11
God revealed himself to Abraham as God Almighty (El-Shaddai) - the God who created and sustains all things. He now reveals Himself to Moses as YHWH / Yahweh - I Am, the self-sustaining, covenant-keeping relational God.
The name by which God introduces Himself to Moses is His personal name. It's extremely precious that He chose to do this and alerts us, the reader, to the fact that God is going to enter into covenant relationship with His people.
If you are in Christ, you too are in a covenant relationship with Him. May I encourage you to never stop growing and increasing in your knowledge of Him? Ask Him to reveal more of His nature and character to you. Ask Him to broaden your salvation and develop you as His child.
Each one of us needs to know and experience God as All-powerful provider and sustainer, as healer and counsellor - not “just” as saviour and friend.
And you can specifically ask Him for this. Why don't you do so right now?
Prayer
Father, thank You that there is so much to know of You. Thank You that You are bigger than my understanding of You and my current needs. Lord I want to know You more, please grant me this great privilege.
For the family
Engage
Ask different members of your family to express their understanding of who God is. Take some time to explain how you can grow in your knowledge of the different aspects of God's character.
