DAY 110 - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE PROMISE
Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one and the same. God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.”
Genesis 41:25
Reading: Genesis 41:1-56, Genesis 50:15-26.
The story of Joseph being used by God to save his people is the longest single narrative in the Bible. It is a powerful story that shows that God acts sovereignly to save His people through the power of His Word.
In the Joseph story He raises up a person to believe, understand and interpret His word to save the lives of millions who would have died of starvation - the youngest son of Jacob (Israel) who was sold into slavery by his own brothers. His love and obedience to God taught him to forgive his own brothers who sold him into slavery because they were jealous. Joseph believed in the Promise so much that at the end of his life he made his brothers swear to bury his bones in the Promised Land. Joseph’s life is a clear foreshadow and type of Christ who was also willing to forgive those who had rejected him and even lay down his life for them.
Can God use you as he used Joseph? That depends. Can you forgive those who abuse you or falsely accuse you? Can you keep faith with God’s word for years and years even when it feels like He’s forgotten you? Go to God in prayer over these matters.
Prayer
Lord thank You for sending someone to bring me the bread of life so that I could eat and live. Now give me a willing heart to carry Your Word to those who are starving and hungry.
