#WALKWITHJESUS 2

“So I will give him a place of honour among those who are great. He will be rewarded just like others who win the battle. That’s because he was willing to give his life as a sacrifice. He was counted among those who had committed crimes. He took the sins of many people on himself. And he gave his life for those who had done what is wrong.”

Isaiah 53:12 NIRV

Reading: Isaiah 53:1-12, Psalms 22:1-31

When explaining his death and resurrection, Jesus made it clear that he had obtained his information from prophecies in the Old Testament about him. The authenticity and trustworthiness of the Bible is underpinned by the accuracy of prophecy regarding the birth, life, sacrificial death and subsequent resurrection of Jesus Christ. We see examples in our readings for today, but there are many others.

Easter didn’t appear randomly, out of nowhere. We can trace it back to the earliest times.

The story of the Bible is the story of God’s love for mankind. You will have seen this if you’ve been following the #bigpictureinayear daily devotions on our website. From beginning to end, it’s all about God’s love for us. God created everything so that mankind could thrive on Earth. The instructions He gave them were simple and for their benefit - take dominion by ruling over the earth, multiply the image of God by teaching your children to honour God, take care of this world that had been entrusted to you, cultivate the ground to provide food for yourselves, marry and respect the sanctity of that union.

The Bible records the first failure of Adam and Eve to trust and obey God – and the downward spiral of sin that followed. But it also records God’s continual efforts to redeem mankind and make a people for Himself that He could enjoy and live with. Easter is the culmination of all those efforts, the coup de grace to all that separated God from His people.

When you know the whole story of the Bible and understand the significant connections between each part of the story, Easter takes on a whole new meaning. If you haven’t already done so, may I encourage you today to immerse yourself in The Big Picture course produced by King’s Cross Training. It’s available here online and you can also participate via Zoom in the live classes that are currently being taught by John D’achada in Johannesburg. It will help you to grasp the fullest, deepest meaning of Easter.

Prayer
