DAY TWENTY NINE - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE CREATION
“Rule over the fish in the seas..”
Genesis 28
Reading: Genesis 1; Matthew 6: 9-13
We’re going to spend the next few days focusing on the mandate that God gave humanity to steward and care for Creation. Isn't it humbling to realize that we could solve the problems of Earth by removing one species: Homo sapiens? If something happened tomorrow to remove humans from the face of the Earth, it would not be long before the skies cleared and the stars could be seen at night, the waters and rivers would run clear again, the forests would grow back on the denuded hillsides, and the Earth would be restored to an orderly, balanced, beautiful kingdom. We've seen evidence of this during Covid-19 lockdowns.
What is the problem? Humanity is the problem. Why is this? The Lord Jesus put His finger right on the answer when He said, 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God' (Matthew 4:4). When God provided bread as people's basic food, bread made from the grains of earth, the seed-bearing plants and their fruits, He intended, as we have seen all through this account, that such physical bread would be a picture of the bread desperately needed at the spiritual level of people as well.
That bread of the spirit is the understanding of God's will. Without being restored to God’s blessing, His presence, through Christ, we cannot hope to know God’s will. And therefore, we cannot hope to wisely steward His resources.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You that through Christ I have been restored to Your presence. May I always know and obey Your will.
For the family
Explain
Briefly explain that when people do their own thing, and don’t get wisdom from God, things can do horribly wrong.
Engage
James 1:5 tells us that if we ask for wisdom, God will give it generously without finding fault: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” Encourage your kids to do that every day, or whenever they are in a situation where they feel lost or unsure.
