DAY 95 - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE PROMISE
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife had borne him no children...
Genesis 16:1
Reading: Genesis 16:1-15; Romans 9:6-9; Galatians 3:16.
Abram and Sarai really battled with their barrenness issue, as anyone who has struggled with this issue can testify. The story the Bible records is that, even though God had spoken clearly to Abram and Sarai, they disobeyed God.
The Promises made to them were destined to be fulfilled just as God had said they would be, but because there was a frustrating delay associated with the fulfilment of the Promises, Abram and Sarai made a plan of their own. The birth of their son Isaac required a miraculous intervention from God, through the channel of Abram and Sarai’s faith. The child that would be the blessing from God could not be conceived by human effort, but only through believing in God’s Promise.
This is also a picture of how Jesus came into the world - not by human ingenuity, but by God’s miraculous Promise and Divine intervention. It is through this seed of Abraham, Jesus, that all the nations of the earth will be blessed.
It was through Abram’s seed, Isaac, that the human lineage of Jesus would come. When God spoke, saying, “through your seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed”, he was saying that through the one seed, Isaac, would be born the one person, Jesus, who would be the saviour of the whole world. Christians take the human lineage of Jesus from father Abraham. It was through this line that God became a man, and the man Christ Jesus was able to pay for all sin on the cross.
Prayer
Thank you Lord for the miracle of forgiveness, I could not achieve it. But today by faith I receive it. I repent of my pride, thinking I can help you out when it comes to saving me.
