Day 51 -FOUNDATIONS STONES IN A YEAR

All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Matthew 11: 27, 28

Reading:

Jesus says that only he knows the Father. In this he is claiming to know the mind of God. But in the Old Testament, it clearly states that no-one knows the thoughts of God but God Himself.

So this is either an incredibly presumptuous and blasphemous thing for Jesus to say, or..he is claiming to be God.

In this passage, Jesus also says that ‘all things’ have been handed over to him by the Father. When you read that with some lines from the book of Isaiah in mind it is hard not to see Jesus making a claim to be God. For instance, God says.

“I am the LORD; that is my name!

I will not yield my glory to another

or my praise to idols.

(Isaiah 42:8) 3

Jesus thought of himself as God - God the Son - the second person of the Trinity. This is the reason that Jesus accepted the worship of his disciples (Matthew 14v25-32). And why, at the end of Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus says,

All authority on heaven and earth has been given to me.

(Matthew 28:18-20)

Prayer

Jesus, I bow the knee before You as the One to whom all authority in Heaven and Earth has been given.
