Day 45 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

Like a garment they will also be changed, but You are the same
Hebrews 1: 12

Reading: Malachi 3: 6; Hebrews 1: 10-12; Hebrews 13: 8; James 1: 17

We’re looking at just a few, a mere sampling, of the places in the Bible where there is an indirect affirmation of the Deity of Christ. One of the ways in which the Bible does this is by attributing the characteristics that belong exclusively to God, to Jesus.

God is unchanging. The theological term for this is immutability. The immutability of God is clearly taught throughout Scripture. “I the Lord do not change” is a statement that God makes of Himself. And lest we think it is only in the Old Testament that God’s immutability is taught, we have James 1: 17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness nor shadow of turning.”

The “shadow of turning” refers to the behaviour and passage of the physical sun. But God, who, spiritually speaking, is the true light, is not like that. There is no shadow, no darkness, no changing in Him. God is unchangeable in His nature, perfections, purposes, promises, and gifts. He, being holy, cannot turn to that which is evil; nor can He, who is the fountain of light, be the cause of darkness. Since every good and perfect gift comes from Him, evil cannot proceed from Him.

God is unchanging and unchangeable. And this incredible quality of Deity is attributed to Jesus too. Can the sacrifice of Jesus ever lose its effectiveness? No. Will Jesus ever change His mind about being your substitute in the courts of Heaven? No. Can you fully rely on His Word? Yes!

Prayer

Thank You Lord, my salvation is so secure because it is founded and grounded in your immutability.
