Day 31 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

Jesus passionately cried out, took his last breath, and gave up his spirit.
Matthew 27:50

Reading: Matthew 27: 45-53; Mark 15: 33-38

There were two moments in Jesus’ life where he displayed his true humanness to perfection. The first was at his human birth, through Mary. But the shadow of the cross was always looming over his cradle – and so the second was at his death.

In so many ways, Jesus was born, to die.

In going to the cross Jesus: a) paid for our sin b) opened the veil into the holy of holies, and c) removed the unknown of death and dying.

But simply by being a human being Jesus did so much for us. Jesus gives dignity to our flesh because he himself came in the flesh. It’s a fine and noble thing to be a human being. It must be because God was happy to become one. As we view Jesus in his humanity, it deals with shame in our body.

Furthermore, Jesus is also the baptiser in the Holy Spirit and this leads to us experiencing the Spirit living in our bodies. By the Spirit, we now have God living in our bodies and this dignifies our humanity even more.

The humanity of Jesus teaches us that God has a much greater plan for us than just 'getting in to heaven'. He wants us to live out His glory in our bodies, hence the urgent need to deal with shame.

From tomorrow we will be delving into the other side of the Cornerstone, Jesus’s Divinity, which is another enriching and amazing study.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for showing me just some of the reasons why you came to Earth as a human being. Thank you for meeting both the Father’s, and my, needs.
