DAY 170 - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE LAW
...WHEN THEY SIN IN ANY OF THESE WAYS AND REALISE THEIR GUILT, THEY MUST... MAKE RESTITUTION IN FULL...
Leviticus 6: 4-5
Reading: Romans 3: 20; 5: 20-21; 7: 7-11
The LAW was given to set apart a covenant people for God whose society and culture would be shaped by that law – the LAW of love. And they were set apart for the purpose of being a witness to the nations of the presence of God amongst them.
The LAW in essence revealed God’s character to the world. Love conquers all. It is only in a nation where they set their hearts on loving God and loving each other, that a successful society could be established. We need God; we need love.
Not only does the law reveal God’s goodness to us, it also reveals our lack of goodness, as well. If it were not for the law of God, we would not realise that we fall short of His perfection. There is no man alive that can claim that they uphold the law perfectly. Not today, and not back then. In fact, God was so sure of their failure that He gave them instructions regarding what to do to make restitution when they sinned.
The LAW reveals to us that we need Christ. When we realise that a God exists who defines the standard of right and wrong, we then try to live right in our own strength - only to find that we are unable to do so. At that point, we turn to God.
Those who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, thank You that You are with me through each moment of every day. Please reveal to me how You see others and Your love for them, and show me how to grow my love for them.
For the family
Explain to your children that God commands His people to love each other. Love is a decision, it’s not based on how you feel.
Make 2 “masks” – one with an angry face and one for a loving, happy face. Get your children to practice showing love by role-playing or acting out different situations where they have to choose to either show anger or to show love.
