Day 160 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR
READING: Hebrews 11: 1–8
This connection between faith and obedience is so important that I feel we should spend a few more days exploring it.
I have heard some people say that if God appeared to them the way he appeared to Abram, they would not have a problem believing and obeying Him. But how realistic is this? And just how did God speak to Abram? Surely in not too different a way in which God speaks to you and I today.
No, our persistent unbelief and disobedience is not based on this objection but rather, is underscored by our not knowing God for who He is. And because of this, many of us have a basic mistrust of God. What reasons do you come up with for not obeying God in the things He commands you to do? Do you realize that your obedience is in direct proportion to your faith? If you really believe God to be good and trustworthy, you’ll have fewer problems obeying Him, even when it looks like obedience is going to cost you greatly.
PRAYER
Jesus, how can I call you Lord unless I am utterly convinced that to obey You is the purpose of my life. Help me to trust you more; to know your goodness and holiness in a way that releases me to obey.
