Day 159 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR
READING: Acts 7: 2–4, Hebrews 11: 6, 8–10
The Bible tells us that God then appeared to Abram and commanded him to leave the city and his father’s household and go on to the land of Cannan.
One of the first things that Abram must have struggled with was the thought of leaving his family. Family was much more important then than it is in our culture today. Back then, a person’s sense of identity came from their family. By leaving his family, Abram was willing to let God give him a new identity. We need to understand that it was extremely difficult for Abram to leave his family. Yet, he obeyed. We know that he was not neglectful of his family, because even though he was the youngest, Abram was willing to take on the responsibility of his nephew Lot, after his father, Haran, died.
This obedience that Abram displayed is what the Bible calls faith; and it is the benchmark for God’s people today.
PRAYER
Father, I have not fully understood the connection between faith and obedience. Help me to become like Abram, a person who shows my faith in Your Word through my obedient action.
