Day 157 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR
READING: Genesis 11: 31–32
After Terah, Abram’s father, died in Haran, the whole family stayed in that city and eventually settled down there. What kind of a place was it?
Archaeology tells us that it was a great and important city. It’s name meant “crossroads” in one of the ancient languages; as such, it was the city that connected east and west. The attraction of the city for Abram was surely that it appeared to offer safety and security for him and his family. Could it be that the father of our faith got stuck? Just as we so often do?
Abram hung around in comfortable Haran instead of pressing on to Canaan. Yes, our all too human ‘father of faith’ had feet of clay. This should be of some comfort to us.
PRAYER
Father, thank you for the life of Abraham; that you saw fit by your Holy Spirit to include both his low’s and high’s in the Word of God. For my sake.
