Day 153 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

This is the account of Terah’s family line.Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28 While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth.

Genesis 11: 27- 28

Reading: Joshua 24: 2

Joshua tells us that Abram came from the “wrong” side of the river and that his ancestors worshiped false gods. Ur, the city of Abram’s birth, was in what is known today as, Southern Iraq. Babylon was the capital then, even as it is now.

The people at that time believed that their beautiful capital city, Babylon, was founded by the god Marduk. There were many temples or towers built in these regions called Ziggurats where the gods were worshiped. The people of that region believed that the gods permitted them to live and have children so that they would have food.

Imagine having this as your spiritual heritage, your belief system? Abram becomes an even more remarkable figure when we realise where he came from. Who, or what, do you think of when you worship God? Is it all truth; or is it tainted with the false doctrines of your spiritual heritage?

PRAYER

Father God, remind me again that no matter where a person comes from, he or she is precious to you and you know about them.
