Day 143 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR
Reading: Isaiah 54:1-17
In reading the book of Job in the Bible I used to feel that I did not really understand the storyline or really grasp the life lessons that this book was trying to teach me. Do you know what I mean? Then, while reading it again for the umpteenth time, I coupled two key verses together – and the lights went on, it all made sense to me.
The entire story of Job is about trusting God / having faith in God no matter what disasters one might be facing in this life. Hebrews 11: 39 says “And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised”. This tells me that some of the people had a promise from God, to which they clung in their lifetime. The promise was only fulfilled in a subsequent generation, or even, many generations later. Job had no such promise. All Job had was his relationship with God. No matter what happened, Job believed that God had his back. Job’s faith was eventually vindicated when God confronted him and then instructed him to pray for his friends. Job received his reward for trusting God while he was still alive, and his faith was imputed to him as righteousness.
Have you given up your hope that God would come through for you? Job did not know the end, yet he trusted God. You do know the end. Have faith in God, for you know that your Redeemer lives!

Dear God, rekindle Your hope in my heart so that I can trust like Job.
