Day 135 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR
Reading: Genesis 50:22-26, Exodus 13:17-22
When Joseph went to Egypt he had no idea how his life there would unfold. His faith in God and his depth of character ensured that he and his family after him had a future destiny. In looking into the future he believed God’s promise to Abraham about a ‘Promised Land’.
Joseph arrived in Egypt a slave. Through various circumstances he was promoted to the position of Prime Minister of that very powerful nation. The favour of God was upon his life. Why, you may ask? I believe that no matter what happened to him Joseph believed that God was in control, not only of his daily life but also of his destiny. God vindicated Joseph’s faith and eventually he saved his brothers and his father from the famine in Canaan. This began the fulfilment of the prophecy that God had made to Abraham that his descendants would be enslaved for 400 years after which time they would be released with great wealth. When they eventually left Egypt in the Exodus the bones of Joseph, which had been preserved by faith, accompanied them on their journey. Joseph’s bones were buried in Shechem in Canaan in a parcel of land Jacob had bought.
God’s call to our faith is not usually only for ourselves. God has a greater vision. A vision that includes our family, our community and our country. What are you seeing by faith?
Prayer:
Dear God, expand my vision and build my faith to match it.
