Day 131 - FOUNDATION STONES IN A YEAR

Thus he, Aaron the priest, shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the people of Israel and because of their transgressions, all their sins.
Leviticus 16:16

Reading: Leviticus 16:1-34

The two sons of Aaron were struck dead by the fire of God because they did not follow protocol and burned incense at a time and place that they should not have done. It was against this backdrop that Aaron was instructed to offer the sacrifice for the atonement of the Israelites’ sin.

The ritual that Aaron had to follow in presenting the blood of the sin offering on the mercy seat was dangerous. It took place in the midst of dense, smoking incense in a small room with almost no visibility. Behind the thick veil Aaron stood in the presence of God, there to transact for the atonement of the people of Israel. Doing it incorrectly would have resulted in death. It required tremendous faith to actually enter into the Presence of a Holy God and present the blood of the sacrifice. Once done, he moved slowly backwards, out through the unyielding curtain and gratefully took a deep breath of relief and fresh air. Grateful that he was still alive and that Israel’s sins were atoned for another year. This was a prime example of faith being proved by the deed.

You are continually in the presence of our Holy God and without any danger when you confess your sins. When last have you had a heart to heart conversation with God?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you that I do not need to go through the veil to speak to you.
