DAY 131 - BIG PICTURE IN A YEAR - THE EXODUS
AND THE PEOPLE GRUMBLED AGAINST MOSES, SAYING, “WHAT SHALL WE DRINK?”
Exodus 15: 24
Reading: Exodus 16:11; Exodus 17:3 Philippians 2:14-15
The people of God had witnessed God’s mighty acts of deliverance; setting them free from slavery in Egypt, leading by cloud and fire, crossing the Red Sea on dry ground, drowning their enemy. Yet they quickly forgot all this at the first sign of things not going their way.
It’s easy to look at them critically and say ‘How ungrateful and faithless’ – but if we’re honest, we do the exact same thing. We praise God when things are going well and grumble when things are not.
Yet, we too have experienced a great salvation, we have His written word the Bible and the Holy Spirit to guide us and lead us. But how very quickly we forget what God has done in us and start doubting His care and provision.
You may not think and grumbling and complaining is a big sin, but God does. It breaks unity and weakens faith. Thus, God deals decisively with it. It is very easy to start grumbling and complaining. Don’t allow an ungrateful attitude to settle in your life.
Prayer
Lord thank You for my salvation and all Your provision. I recognize all I have as coming from You. Lord I’m grateful for all You have given me.
For the family
For younger kids watch this video and talk about how grumbling and complaining is so dangerous and shows we are not grateful for what we have. Take time to explain how much we have to be grateful for. Write a list of things as a family that you are grateful for.
